Στο Porto Rotondo στην Ιταλία θα γίνει το 11ο Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα Farr 40. Οι αγώνες θα ξεκινήσουν στις 30 Σεπτεμβρίου και θα συνεχιστούν ως τις 3 Οκτώβρη.

Δέκα ομάδες θα πάρουν μέρος και θα γίνουν δέκα κούρσες μέσα στο τετραήμερο του αγώνα.
Η κλάση είναι φυσικά one design και μάλιστα ο ιδιοκτήτης είναι και ο τιμονιέρης του σκάφους, αυτό προϊδεάζει για τον έντονο συναγωνισμό.
Παρόλο που οι ομάδες είναι ερασιτεχνικές κατά κύριο λόγο, το επίπεδο ανταγωνισμού και αγωνιστικότητας είναι ιδιαίτερα υψηλό και μάλιστα συγκεντρώνει και πολλούς γνωστούς επαγγελματίες όπως ο Vasco Vascotto στο Nerone, ο Hamish Pepper στο Barking Mad, ο Chris Larson στο Plenty (USA) και ο Ray Davies στο Fiamma (ITA).

Σκάφη που αναμένεται να πρωταγωνιστήσουν είναι σίγουρα το Barking Mad (USA) του Jim Richardson τρεις φορές (1998, 2004, 2009) παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής, το Nerone (ITA) του Massimo Mezzaroma παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής 2010, και το Struntje Light (GER) του Wolfgang Schaefer που πρόσφατα κέρδισε το Audi Sardinia Cup.

Δελτίο Τύπου Πασχαλίδης - Τριγκώνης

Η φετινή χρονιά ήταν πραγματικά ξεχωριστή για εμάς για πολλούς λόγους με δεδομένο ότι καταφέραμε να πάρουμε ένα ασημένιο και ένα χρυσό μετάλλιο στο Παγκόσμιο και Ευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα Tornado, αντίστοιχα.
Μια μικρή αναδρομή
Μετά την ψυχρολουσία της αποπομπής της κλάσης από το πρόγραμμα των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων του 2012 και φυσικά τον άδικο τρόπο που ουσιαστικά μας στέρησε ένα μετάλλιο στο Πεκίνο, μας πήρε κάποιο χρόνο για να προσαρμοστούμε στα νέα δεδομένα και να επανέλθουμε σε καλούς αγωνιστικούς ρυθμούς.
Το 2009 ήταν μια μεταβατική χρονιά για εμάς. Μια χρονιά αναδιοργάνωσης και μετάβασης στην πραγματική ζωή. Συμμετείχαμε με ελάχιστες προπονήσεις στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα
της κλάσης όπου καταλάβαμε την 3η θέση. Το σαράκι όμως του να αγωνιζόμαστε και να βρισκόμαστε στη θάλασσα κάνοντας αυτό που αγαπάμε δεν άργησε να ξαναβγεί στην επιφάνεια. Είναι δύσκολο άλλωστε να διαγράψεις συνήθειες χρόνων μέσα σε τόσο λίγο χρονικό διάστημα. Αποφασίσαμε λοιπόν για την φετινή χρονιά να επενδύσουμε περισσότερο χρόνο στην προπόνησή μας και φυσικά σε αγώνες και τα μέχρι τώρα αποτελέσματα έδειξαν ότι άξιζε τον κόπο!
Συμμετείχαμε τον Ιούλιο στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα Formula 18
1η φορά συμμετείχε Ελληνικό πλήρωμα στην εν λόγω κατηγορία, η οποία είναι παραπλήσια του Tornado, κατακτώντας την 13η θέση. Να σημειώσουμε εδώ ότι στην συγκεκριμένη κατηγορία δεν είχαμε προηγούμενες εμπειρίες και τρέξαμε τον αγώνα με μόλις δύο προπονήσεις με το συγκεκριμένο σκάφος.
Το αποτέλεσμα κρίνεται ικανοποιητικό για τον ελάχιστο χρόνο που είχαμε έτσι ώστε να γνωρίσουμε το νέο σκάφος αν και με λίγη προσοχή παραπάνω θα μπορούσαμε να πλασαριστούμε στην 1η εξάδα. Η εμπειρία αυτή ήταν καταλυτικής σημασίας για την συνέχεια της χρονιάς μιας και κατέδειξε τις αδυναμίες που είχαμε μετά από την μεγάλη μας αποχή από την αγωνιστική δράση. Ούτως ή άλλως ο στόχοι μας για το 2010 ήταν μετάλλια στο Παγκόσμιο και Ευρωπαϊκό πρωτάθλημα Tornado.
Αυξήσαμε την ποσότητα και την ποιότητα της προπόνησής μας επικεντρώνοντας στα σημεία στα οποία θέλαμε βελτίωση και τα αποτελέσματα ήρθαν γρήγορα. Κάποια λάθη μας και μια ζημιά μας στέρησαν το χρυσό μετάλλιο στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα, όπου καταλάβαμε τη 2η θέση. Αυτή η ατυχία -απροσεξία μας ας πούμε- ήταν και η βάση για το εκπληκτικό αποτέλεσμα που ήρθε στο Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα όπου κατακτήσαμε το χρυσό μετάλλιο. Στην κυριολεξία κυριαρχήσαμε και δεν απειληθήκαμε από κανέναν ούτε μια στιγμή. Η ταχύτητα μας και ο χειρισμός του σκάφους μας ήταν ένα σκαλοπάτι επάνω από τον υπόλοιπο ανταγωνισμό. Σε αυτό βέβαια βοήθησαν και οι καιρικές συνθήκες - δυνατοί άνεμοι- τους οποίους λατρεύουμε, όπως και κάποιες ρυθμίσεις που κάναμε στο σκάφος μας.
Επόμενοι Σταθμοί
Οι στόχοι μας από εδώ και πέρα για την φετινή χρονιά επικεντρώνονται στο να ξαναδούμε αυτό το φανταστικό σκάφος στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του 2016. Συγκεκριμένα τον Νοέμβριο θα γίνει στην Αθήνα το ετήσιο meeting της Διεθνούς Ιστιοπλοϊκής Ομοσπονδίας, όπου και εγώ υπό την ιδιότητά μου ως αντιπρόεδρος της International Tornado Class Association και ο Ιορδάνης με την ιδιότητα του μέλους του συμβουλίου της κλάσης μαζί με τον πρόεδρο της κλάσης και άλλες ισχυρές προσωπικότητες της Ιστιοπλοΐας θα δώσουμε έναν αγώνα έτσι ώστε να ξαναδούμε το καταμαράν και το Tornado στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες.
Η διεθνής συγκυρία κρίνεται θετική μιας και όλος ο κόσμος της Ιστιοπλοΐας στρέφεται ακόμη περισσότερο προς τα καταμαράν. Να σημειώσουμε εδώ ότι πρόσφατα ανακοινώθηκε ότι το επόμενο Americas Cup θα γίνει με καταμαράν, γεγονός το οποίο δεν μπορεί να αφήσει τη Διεθνή Ιστιοπλοϊκή Ομοσπονδία αδιάφορη.
Στον αγωνιστικό τομέα πρόθεσή μας είναι να συμμετάσχουμε ξανά στο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα Formula 18 όπως και στον διασημότερο αγώνα μεγάλων αποστάσεων με καταμαράν Round Texel (60 ν.μ. non stop με πάνω από 500 καταμαράν να συμμετέχουν).
Επίσης θα συμμετέχουμε στο Ευρωπαϊκό και Παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα Tornado όπως και στα Grand Prix που θα γίνουν στις ίδιες τοποθεσίες πριν τα πρωταθλήματα αυτά.
Υπάρχει και κάτι ακόμα στο πλάνο που ετοιμάζουμε, σε συνεργασία με την Red Bull, μοναδικό και πολύ ενδιαφέρον, το οποίο δεν μπορούμε να το ανακοινώσουμε ακόμη.
Κρυφός μας πόθος είναι η συμμετοχή μας σε κάποια Grand Prix με extreme 40 (www.extremesailing.com) και γιατί όχι να συμμετάσχουμε σε κάποια υπάρχουσα ή νεοϊδρυθείσα ομάδα για το Americas Cup!
Με καταμαράν θα γίνει άλλωστε και το καταμαράν μας πάει!
Τέλος θα θέλαμε να πούμε δύο λόγια για την εταιρία που 4 χρόνια βρισκόταν δίπλα μας βοηθώντας ουσιαστικά στην Ολυμπιακή μας προετοιμασία για το 2008 χωρίς να φαίνεται.
Μιλάμε για την Red Bull και τα στελέχη που την απαρτίζουν εδώ στην Ελλάδα οι οποίοι ζήσανε και ζουν μαζί μας όλη μας την έως τώρα προσπάθεια. Μας στήριξαν στο ακέραιο όχι μόνο σε μια πολύ δύσκολη οικονομικά συγκυρία αλλά και παρ’ όλο που το Tornado δεν είναι Ολυμπιακό αγώνισμα πια. Για εμάς δεν είναι απλά συνεργάτες, είναι φίλοι οι οποίοι συμμετείχαν όλα αυτά τα χρόνια στην προσπάθειά μας. Δικαιωματικά ένα μεγάλο κομμάτι των επιτυχιών μας είναι και δικό τους.
Ευχόμαστε να είμαστε δυνατοί και υγιείς έτσι ώστε να ζήσουμε και άλλες τέτοιες στιγμές παρέα.

Αν και ο Ν.Ο.Ε. το κράτησε επτασφράγιστο μυστικό, μάθαμε (ιδίοις όμμασι), ότι σε λίγο στις εγκαταστάσεις του θα καταπλεύσουν τα 26 σκάφη που τρέχουν στο Cup Istanbul 2010.

To Cup Istanbul είναι ένας ιστιοπλοικός αγώνας που διεξάγεται με σκάφη τύπου Figaro (Beneteau) με πλήρωμα ενός ατόμου.
Τα σκάφη ξεκίνησαν από την Γαλλία (Ιερ) και θα καταλήξουν στην Κωνσταντινούπολη με ενδιάμεσους σταθμούς τη Ραγκούσα στην Ιταλία, τον Πειραιά, το Didim και την Bozcaada. Η συνολική απόσταση που θα καλύψουν είναι 1590νμ.
Προς το παρόν προηγείται το Macif με σκίπερ τον Francois Gabart που ήταν το πρώτο σκάφος που πέρασε στις 6:00 τα Αντικύθηρα και κατευθύνεται προς την Φαλκονέρα.
Ο καιρός έχει γυρίσει σε ΝΔ και όσο περνάει η ώρα ανεβαίνει τα πρώτα σκάφη αναμένετε να τερματίσουν με τα μπαλόνια τους οσονούπω στο Φάληρο.

Στις Βερμούδες θα αναμετρηθούν οι κορυφαίοι match racers του κόσμου, στο Argo Group Gold Cup, στην προσπάθεια τους να ανέβουν στο ranking list του ISAF World Match Racing Tour ένα βήμα πριν το μεγάλο φινάλε τον Δεκέμβρη στο Monsoon Cup.

Οι αγώνες θα ξεκινήσουν στις 5 Οκτώβρη και θα ολοκληρωθούν στις 11 στο Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.
Οι ιστιοπλοϊκές μονομαχίες αναμένονται να είναι ιδιαίτερα έντονες μιας και οι τέσσερις πρώτες ομάδες είναι πολύ κοντά στην βαθμολογία.
Στην κορυφή του WMRT βρίσκεται ο Γάλλος Mathieu Richard (French Match Racing Team) μόλις 27 βαθμούς πίσω του είναι ο περσινός πρωταθλητής, o Νεοζηλανδός Adam Minoprio (ETNZ/BlackMatch Racing) και σε απόσταση αναπνοής ο δυο φορές παγκόσμιος πρωταθλητής ο Βρετανός Ian Williams (Team GAC Pindar) και ο Αυστραλός Torvar Mirsky (Mirsky Racing Team). Εκεί θα βρίσκεται και ο περσινός νικητής του αγώνα ο Βρετανός Ben Ainslie (Team Origin).

It will be something of a tight schedule for those moving swiftly from the final Audi MedCup Circuit regatta of the season, the Region of Sardinia Trophy - which finished last Saturday in Cagliari - traveling directly across the Mediterranean to Valencia for the TP52 World Championships which start racing one week today, Tuesday 5th October.
The TP52 World Championship have a very different flavour, a unique atmosphere. That is not to say that any team drops their guard or relaxes any more when they are on the Worlds race course.

But ashore the mood is a little more relaxed than through the high octane five months long Audi MedCup season; there is a chance to reflect and to look forward, but also for some crews the World Championship present a great opportunity for the owner to come and step in to the hot seat and enjoy steering his own boat. The world championships offer a special owner-driver trophy.
The short transition time may fall in the favour of the current world champions. Matador (ARG) won a fiercely contested title in Palma a year ago. With owner Alberto Roemmers Jr. on the helm, they squeezed out the 2008 TP52 world title winners Quantum Racing (USA) but it went to count-back, the two finishing on the same points tally.
This time it is Matador who arrive in Valencia with a winning momentum. They conclusively triumphed at the final event of the Audi MedCup Circuit season, the Region of Sardinia Trophy, the outstanding performer over the latter stages of the season, also finishing second in Cartagena, Murcia.
Quantum Racing (USA), world title winners in 2008, will be among their main rivals as will 2007 world title winners Artemis (SWE). Owner Torbjorn Tornqvist (SWE) was back steering Artemis in Cagliari and the Artemis team will be out to help deliver a trophy after missing out on an Audi MedCup season podium finish.
Up to ten races are scheduled with racing due to start Tuesday 5th October. Up to three races may be sailed each day with a coastal race on Thursday October 7th. While the race arena will be well known to many sailors who participated in the lead up to the 32nd America’s Cup, the winds in early October can be more complicated than the Cup diet of sea breezes. Typically over the week we might see some of a very strong, offshore breeze, some light sea breezes and/or a very strong NE’ly breeze which kicks up a nasty choppy swell.
One key contender which will miss out is Jose Cusí’s Bribon (ESP), which was damaged in a collision in Cagliari. This is a bitter blow not least because Bribon lead into the final day in Palma last year.
Two British TP52’s join the fleet Pace (ex Patches) which will have Rob Greenhalgh (GBR) as tactician with TeamOrigin’s Kelvin Harrap (NZL) as strategist, and Weapon of Choice ex Matador 2007 which raced in Palma last year.
The TP52 World Championship will benefit from the excellent America’s Cup standard facilities. The regatta will be based in the Marina Real Juan Carlos I, run from the Veles e Vents Building.

The first edition of the Magic Marine BetPro D-One Gold Cup, the new high performance single-handed dinghy that also flies a gennaker, will take place from the 1st to the 3rd of October in Valencia, Spain.


About thirty helmsmen from 15 nations, including some of the best Olympic Finn champions, are expected on the starting line, all of them enthusiastic fans of the new Class created by Luca Devoti and Roman Teply and built by Devoti Sailing.
In what promises to be a great show on the water, the first edition of the Magic Marine BetPro D-One Gold Cup kicks off in Valencia in less than a week. This is the first international event for the D-One, the adrenaline-pumping single-handed dinghy designed by UK dinghy master Phil Morrison, tested and developed by Olympic Silver Medallist Luca Devoti and built by Devoti Sailing managed by Roman Teply. The Regatta is hosted by the world renowned Real Club Nautico de Valencia: over 30 athletes representing 15 countries have registered so far and are ready to go to battle from the 30th of September to the 3rd of October.

Some of the best worldwide sailors will be competing in the Magic Marine BetPro D-One Gold Cup:
Spanish Rafael Trujillo, Ed Wright from Great Britain, Croatian Ivan Gaspic, Argentinean Agustìn Zabalua and Belgian Philippe Rogge, just to name a few. A big italian fleet will sail the Gold Cup:
Alberto Ferrari, Andrea Giammarini, Fabio Toccoli and Andrea Gancia will between the names to follow. Many social after-race events have been scheduled, once again attesting to the D-One’s mission: to combine the quality of on the water racing with the pleasure of being with friends on land.

D-One celebrates its first birthday and has already proven to be a great success: 93 boats sold all over the world, from Japan to the United States, to Europe without forgetting about New Zealand and Australia.
Talking about this event, Luca Devoti said: “we are at the end of a long season where regattas where hold all over Europe and it is a honor and one achievement to have 15 countries fighting it out for the Gold Cup. Devotisailing is pleased to invite fans and friends to Valencia to enjoy the races and try the D-One out”.
The boat represents the evolution and integrated synthesis of thirty years of dinghy sailing experience. This thanks to Luca Devoti’s knowledge as a Finn Olympic athlete and Silver medallist (Sydney 2000), and his expertise as the largest Finn builder in the world with his coach and partner Roman Teply.
Upwind, tactics and acrobatics blend when hiking out, while downwind the boat has plenty of power and is fun to sail thanks to her 15 sqm. gennaker. The D-One is suited for a wide weight range (70-95 kilos / 150-210 pounds) thanks to the weight equalization system and hiking wings that can be adjusted in two different positions according to the helmsman’s weight.
Pietro Sibello, the well known Italian Olympic helmsman in the 49er class, shared his impressions of the D-One after having taken part in the Italian Championship in Alassio: “It is really a fantastic boat! Luca was able to bring together the best of the Finn, the Laser and skiffs in a single-handed dinghy. I had a great time!”

ISAF AND ROLEX PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE NOMINEES FOR THE ISAF ROLEX WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2010.

These awards recognize the top male and female sailor in the world. The winners are selected by the 130 ISAF Member National Authorities from an impressive field of nominees. Recent winners have topped their niche in sailing, from one-design to offshore racing.

The host city is always determined by the location for the ISAF (sailing's governing body) Annual Conference. Athens was chosen for 2010 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of HRH King Constantine of Greece's involvement with ISAF.
ISAF received nominations for the 2010 Awards from across the world for sailors representing all aspects of the sport. In deciding the nominees, the achievements of sailors made during the qualifying period of 1 September 2009 and 31 August 2010 are taken into consideration.

There can be only one winner in each of the two categories, male and female, and we are delighted to announce the names of those sailors now vying for the coveted and prestigious 2010 ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.

The extremely popular online game will be back for the next edition of the race, as the contract has now been signed between Volvo Ocean Race S.L.U and UnitedGames, the designers of the Official Game.

The game is set to be bigger and better than before with new features being tested already, to improve the technical and tactical elements for the players. Over 220,000 players participated in the game during the course of the 2008–09 Volvo Ocean Race, with prizes being given on every leg.

The overall race winner was Dutch player Powerof7, whose hard work won him a Volvo C30.
The new and improved game will offer players more functionality to steer and manage their virtual Volvo Open 70s and their crew at the same time. Another exciting addition will be the new In-Port racing feature. These improvements and more will be tested prior to the start next year in a Beta version of the game.
UnitedGames and Volvo Ocean Race will be looking for volunteers to play this test game, and will be publishing details on how the public can sign up early next year.

Οι Αιμίλιος Παπαθανασίου και Αλέξανδρος Δραγούτσης κάνοντας πολύ καλή εμφάνιση κέρδισαν την πρώτη θέση στη Φόρμια της Ιταλίας στην Ολυμπιακή κατηγορία Star.

Ο αγώνας περιλάμβανε τις χώρες της Νοτιοανατολικής Μεσογείου και ταυτόχρονα αποτελούσε ταυτόχρονα και το Εθνικό Πρωτάθλημα της Ιταλίας. Στον αγώνα συμμετείχαν 30 πληρώματα με πολλούς κορυφαίους αθλητές της κατηγορίας Ολυμπιονίκες και παγκόσμιους πρωταθλητές όπως οι Ρόμπερτ Σάιντ, Φρέντερικ Λουφ, Λ. Γκράελ, Σπιτζάουερ, Νέγκρι κ.α.
Οι Έλληνες ιστιοπλόοι στις 7 ιστιοδρομίες που έγιναν πήραν 3 πρώτες θέσεις, ενώ σε μια κούρσα λόγω ζημίας στη μάτσα του σκάφους αναγκάστηκαν να αποχωρήσουν.

Αγαπητοί φίλοι,

Οι επικοινωνίες μας από την αρχή του χρόνου, όταν μάθαμε για την ανάληψη της διαχείρισης του IRC στην Ελλάδα από την ΕΑΘ, ήταν μάλλον περιορισμένες. Η αποχώρηση της Ikaros Marine, ήταν ξαφνική και απροσδόκητη, αλλά ταυτόχρονα αποδείχθηκε και δυσαναπλήρωτη.

Σε αγωνιστικό επίπεδο οι ισχνές συμμετοχές και η έλλειψη συντονισμού, τουλάχιστον στην περιοχή της Αθήνας, δημιουργεί σε πολλούς αγώνες μειωμένο ανταγωνισμό. Βέβαια η μείωση των συμμετοχών είναι ένα φαινόμενο γενικότερο στους αγώνες ανοικτής θάλασσας και η οικονομική κρίση παίζει σημαντικό ρόλο σε αυτό.

Μετά από μεμονωμένες συζητήσεις με αρκετούς από εσάς καταλήγω στο ασφαλές συμπέρασμα ότι, αφού το 2010 πρακτικά έχει χαθεί, αξίζει να κάνουμε μια οργανωμένη προσπάθεια ώστε να μπορέσουμε να έχουμε, σαν IRC Greece Owners Association, μια ποιο έντονη παρουσία και δραστηριότητα το 2011. Για να μπορέσουμε να το κάνουμε αυτό θα πρέπει να έχουμε τουλάχιστον μια οργανωμένη γραμματεία. Το ετήσιο κόστος αυτής προβλέπεται να είναι της τάξης των €3,000-€5,000.

Όπως γνωρίζετε στο Owners Association αυτοδικαίως είναι μέλη όσοι διαθέτουν εν ισχύ πιστοποιητικό ΙRC. Οι πόροι μας για να καλύψουμε τα όποια έξοδα μας, εν προκειμένω τα έξοδα της γραμματείας, πρέπει να προέρχονται από εθελοντικές εισφορές. Αυτή την στιγμή υπάρχουν εν ισχύ 103 πιστοποιητικά IRC. Η κατ’ αναλογία ετήσια εισφορά, εάν συνεισέφεραν όλοι, θα ήταν περίπου ανάμεσα σε €30-50.

Παρακαλώ ενημερώστε με ποιοι από εσάς θα ήταν διατεθειμένοι να συνεισφέρουν εθελοντικά την αναλογία τους για την λειτουργία μιας γραμματείας. Σημειώστε ότι είναι εξαιρετικά πιθανόν, ειδικά κάτω από τις παρούσες οικονομικές συνθήκες, κάποιοι από εμάς να μην μπορέσουν ή θελήσουν να συνεισφέρουν. Σε αυτή την περίπτωση θα πρέπει η συνεισφορά των υπολοίπων να είναι μεγαλύτερη από το ανωτέρω ποσόν.

Ένα δεύτερο θέμα για το οποίο θέλω να σας ενημερώσω είναι ότι τον Οκτώβριο διοργανώνεται στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το ετήσιο συνέδριο του IRC. Επισυνάπτω το σχετικό flyer. Audi MedCup 2010 Region of Sardinia Trophy Regatta - Emirates Team New Zealand vs Matador - DAY 5

To Παγκόσμιο Match Racing Γυναικών ISAF διεξήχθη από τις 20 ως τις 5 Σεπ, στο Newport, Rhode Island, ΗΠΑ.

Συμμετείχαν είκοσι πληρώματα από δεκατέσσερις χώρες και την Ελλάδα εκπροσώπησαν οι Σοφία Μπεκατώρου, Ευτυχία Μαντζαράκη, Ερμιόνη Οικονομοπούλου και Ελεονόρα Αναγνωστοπούλου.
Το πρωτάθλημα το κέρδισε η Βρετανίδα Lucy Macgregor και το πλήρωμα της. Αυτό το παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα ήταν ένα από τα πιο ανταγωνιστικά. Όλα τα πληρώματα μέχρι τελευταία στιγμή πάλευαν με αξιώσεις για την διάκριση. Ο Dave Perry, προπονητής της Barkow και πρωταθλητής στο match racing, δήλωσε: "Αυτή η ρεγκάτα απέδειξε ότι οποιαδήποτε από τις 8 ομάδες των τελικών θα μπορούσε να κερδίσει το χρυσό μετάλλιο στο Λονδίνο το 2012. Στο χρυσό στόλο 4 από τις 6 ομάδες ισοβαθμούσαν με 3 νίκες έκαστη. Όλα αυτά δείχνουν ότι καμιά ομάδα δεν έχει καθαρό προβάδισμά ακόμα. Όλα είναι ανοικτά."

One race was held today in Cagliari for the TP 52 fleet. The Mistral was in at 25-28 knots and there was plenty of action.
On Artemis we had another good race finishing 4th, overlapped with Emirates Team New Zealand who just beat us. Matador had been leading the race at the second windward mark but blew out their gennaker after the set. This saved second place for the season for Quantum who were in 5th place at that point.
For the Cagliari event, Matador sailed great to win easily with ALL4ONE in second tied with ETNZ. This was the final event of the Audi MedCup season. Emirates Team New Zealand won again this year with Quantum second and Matador third. TeamOrigin was fourth and we on Artemis were 5th.
This year the level of the competition has been raised for sure. Emirates Team New Zealand and TeamOrigin have sold their boats to focus on the America's Cup next year.
Quantum is building a new boat, as is Matador.
In ten days time, the TP52 fleet will reconvene in Valencia for the World Championship. We did not have a very good regatta here but are looking at it as a tune up and looking forward to starting with a clean slate for the Worlds.

Just as they did last year Emirates Team New Zealand clinched their second successive Audi MedCup Circuit win with two racing days of the 2010 season to spare.

After Thursday’s coastal race the supreme Kiwis under skipper-helm Dean Barker had built themselves an unbeatable lead and in the end, after today’s one final blustery race in a Mistral of more than 28 knots off Cagliari, Sardinia the champions rounded out their second victorious season to finish 48.5 points ahead of Quantum Racing (USA) who finish runners-up, as they also did last season...
Alberto Roemmers’ Matador (ARG), the current world champions skippered byGuillermo Parada (ARG), comprehensively won the Region of Sardinia Trophy, the fifth and final regatta of the Audi MedCup Circuit season, finishing 12.5 points ahead of Jochen Schuemann’s Franco-German crew on Audi A1 powered by All4ONE.
The Kiwi 2010 champions, become the first team ever in the six year history of the circuit to win back-to-back MedCup Circuit champion titles. They won the top regatta trophy in Cascais, were fourth in Marseille, second in Barcelona, triumphed in Murcia and finished third on countback here in Cagliari.
Emirates Team New Zealand set themselves on course for overall victory from the outset of the season in breezy Cascais, Portugal in May where they established an initial lead of 20 points, winning three races as well as the key coastal race there.
When last season they streaked to win four in a row of 2009’s five regattas, unmatched consistency has underpinned their victory again this season.They won ten of this 2010 season’s 44 52 Series races. Last year they won 14 races from 43 starts. Skipper Dean Barker, Emirates Team New Zealand’s skipper -helm highlighted today how much harder this season has been for them to prevail overall.
Terry Hutchinson (USA) and the Quantum Racing (USA) crew finish second overall for the season, just five points ahead of Matador. When they seized the lead on the second beat of today’s race the world champions seemed to have pulled themselves up to within touching distance of second place on the Circuit.
With incumbents Quantum Racing five boats behind it might then have gone down to a match race for second, but as they hoisted their kite for the final run it exploded and they were left sitting for minutes while four boats passed them.
They only just managed to get a new spinnaker filling to stay ahead of their green and black hulled adversaries. With a win in the final race of the season Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE finish second at this season’s finale, just as they also did in Portugal in May.

• H Audi και το MedCup μαζί ως το 2013... τουλάχιστον

Η AUDI AG και η World Sailing Management υπέγραψαν συμφωνία για την ανανέωση της χορηγίας της Audi στο TP52 MedCup το οποίο φυσικά θα συνεχίσει να λέγεται Audi MedCup ως το τέλος του 2013.

• Βρέθηκε ο αντικαταστάτης του Farr 40?
  

Πριν από μερικές μέρες έπεσα τυχαία επάνω σε ένα πολύ ωραίο σκάφος (ή έτσι μου φάνηκε) και σκεφτόμουν να το σηκώσω στο site για να το δούμε όλοι. Το σκάφος αυτό ήταν το Soto 40. Δεν πρόλαβα ... το Audi MedCup με πρόλαβε και ανακοίνωσε ότι από το 2011 το Soto 40 (S40) θα είναι μέρος του Audi MedCup Circuit. Τουλάχιστον 8 σκάφη από όσα έχουν ήδη κατασκευαστεί έχουν επιβεβαιώσει την πρόθεση τους να συμμετάσχουν στην επόμενη σεζόν στους αγώνες, τρία από την Ν. Αμερική, δύο από την Ισπανία, ένα από την Γαλλία κ.α.

A light unstable breeze which blew from just about every direction of the compass, and never reached any more than seven knots, finally scuppered the penultimate day of racing at the Region of Sardinia Trophy in Cagliari.

If the weather proved unkind, not fulfilling the role which was asked of it on what could have been a decisive day, the final day of the 2010 Audi MedCup season does look promising. A NE’ly Mistral wind of between 15 and 25 knots would, if it arrives as forecasters currently suggest, offer perfect conditions for the season’s finale.

The planned start time for Saturday has been moved forward to 1200hrs, midday, in an effort to allow three races for both the 42 Series and the 52 Series fleets.
The lack of racing today was bitter-sweet for Guillermo Parada and the crew of Matador. In the quest for the Region of Sardinia Trophy the lack of racing strengthens the hand of Matador to win the regatta, but leaves them potentially three races to overturn the six points deficit on Quantum Racing tomorrow if they are to capture second place for the season’s Audi MedCup Circuit.
Karol Jablonski (POL) and the crew of Synergy (RUS) are also within reach of their first regatta podium finish of the season, lying second by just 2.5 points ahead of Quantum Racing.
They are likely to consider that attack is the best form of defence as they also have Audi A1 powered by All4ONE (FRA/GER) pursuing their sixth place overall for the season, chasing only 7.5 points behind. It was confirmed today that AUDI AG will extend their title support for the Audi MedCup Circuit, the world's leading regatta circuit, for a further three years through until the end of 2013 season.

“Tomorrow it looks like the small low pressure should have passed through and the skies should clear. Together with the clearer skies we should see a little bit of Mistral. This morning the forecast (for tomorrow) showed 20-25 knots all day, but the latest model updates show it a little bit lighter, maybe 15-20 knots. So it is still very difficult to say which model will be true, but I think that either way we are going to be able to do three races in good wind.”
María Torrijo (ESP), PRO Audi MedCup Circuit:
"The wind's been shifting all day due to the storm, and besides it hasn't really picked up, seven knots the most. We've registered 180 degrees shifts in a very short period of time and that's made us take the decision not to race. The committee boat's been on the water the whole day. Tomorrow's forecast has improved and it seems we'll have between15 and 20 knots."

World champions Matador exorcised last season’s ghost of Sardinia and lifted their four times coastal race jinx today under the Devil’s Saddle when they won the 1.5 points multiplier 30 miles passage to picturesque Poetteo and back.

Matador (ARG) extend their overall lead in the Region of Sardinia Trophy Regatta’s 52 Series to 11 points over second placed Synergy (RUS). And, chasing down the second place overall on the Audi MedCup Circuit which eluded them last year, Matador’s momentum moves them to within six points of Quantum Racing.
Last year Alberto Roemmers’ team lead this coastal race but erred too close to the point at the Devil’s Saddle and ran out of breeze, letting a handful of boats pass them. But today, with Vasco Vascotto and Francesco Bruni combining on tactical choices along with navigator Bruno Zirilli, the Italian trio ensured that Matador did not put a foot wrong and were able to win by a comprehensive 1 minute and 46 seconds. In a light to moderate sea breeze, which built to 12kts midway through the race, the start was critical, setting the order for the windward mark, where Matador lead.
On the long reach across the Bay of Cagliari towards ‘that’ point, the Capo St Elia to the east of Cagliari, Matador were the only team among the leading group to set and hold on to an A3 reaching kite when their pursuers used jibs.
That gave Matador a small boost and allowed them to extend on the run down into the Bay of Angels, to the leeward turning mark off the beach at Poetto.
On the second run back to the same leeward mark Quantum Racing overhauled second placed Jochen Schuemann’s Audi A1 powered by All4One - which had movie actor Jean Reno, star of the Da Vinci Code, Leon, the Big Blue and Mission Impossible -riding at the back as guest.
The 2008 champions Quantum then held off a spirited attack from Artemis, which has owner Torbjorn Tornqvist (SWE) back on the helm this week, on the final sprint under reaching gennakers in to the harbour mouth, taking second just ahead of the team which won the coastal race here last yeatr.
With a sold fifth place Synergy hold on to second place on the Region of Sardinia Trophy Regatta standings only 2.5 points ahead of Terry Hutchinson’s crew on Quantum crew, still with two days and four races still scheduled of this event.

The next release of the ISAF World Sailing Rankings will be on 15 December 2010 up to and including the the Sydney International Regatta in Australia.

Today will be not so much about cracking the Da Vinci code, seeing how the devils and angels duels play out on the 52 Series coastal race today at the Region of Sardinia Trophy regatta.

The coastal race spans the Bay of Cagliari, passing the Sella del Diavolo (the devil’s saddle) and into the Bay of Angels off the beautiful beach at Poetto. This whole area is a the subject of a mythical battle between Lucifer and the angels over the Gulf of Cagliari. The devil was supposedly ejected from heaven and landed on the point which has the silhouetted shape of a saddle.
Such is the mythical background to today’s race area. Renowned actor Jean Reno will sail today on board Audi A1 powered by All4ONE. He is the star of a number of big movies which would ideally fit the various different plot lines at work on the Gulf of Cagliari.
For Matador, who lead the regatta and lead last year’s coastal race until they stalled, running out of breeze at the Capo St Ellia, their task is to crack the race track’s Da Vinci Code. And for Quantum Racing there is perhaps the knowledge that their Reno themed title might be Mission: Impossible?
For Emirates Team New Zealand it’s Le Premier Cercle. The Big Blue...TeamOrigin?
The forecast is for a light to moderate SE’ly sea breeze. The course has always been a tricky one with lots of transition zones, passing that Capo St Ellia in both directions, plus the usual opening windward-leeward circuit which often sorts out the initial order. After yesterday's damage sustained in the collision with Audi All4One, Bribon will not be able to compete in the rest of this regatta. The Spanish boat was not at fault in any way and has been granted redress. Bribón has been scored third place in Race 6, 8 points in today's coastal race, and 5.3 points in races eight, nine and ten.
For the 42 Series there will be three windward-leeward races scheduled.

Την Παρασκευή 24-9-10, ώρα 21:00 θα πραγματοποιηθεί η συγκέντρωση κυβερνητών στην Αίθουσα Διδασκαλίας του Ομίλου και οι συμμετοχές σκαφών αναμένεται να ξεπεράσουν τις 20.
Η εκκίνηση των ιστιοδρομιών θα δοθεί και τις δύο μέρες στις 12:00 το μεσημέρι μπροστά από τις εγκαταστάσεις του Ι.Ο. Πατρών στην οδό Ηρώων Πολυτεχνείου. Τα σκάφη θα βγουν στον στίβο περίπου μια ώρα πριν, για να προετοιμαστούν για τον αγώνα.

Με δύο νίκες και δυο ήττες ξεκίνησαν τις υποχρεώσεις τους στο παγκόσμιο πρωτάθλημα Match racing που γίνεται στο Νιούπορτ του Ρόντ Άϊλαντ στις ΗΠΑ, οι Σοφία Μπεκατώρου, Νόνικα Οικονομοπούλου, Έφη Μαντζαράκη και Ελεονόρα Αναγνωστοπούλου.

Η Μπεκατώρου και η ομάδα της κέρδισαν αρχικά τη Δανή Μελντγκραντ (10η στη παγκόσμια κατάταξη) στη συνέχεια έχασαν από την Βρετανίδα Μακ Γκρέκορ (3η στη παγκόσμια κατάταξη) και από την αυστραλή Σπίτχιλ (7η στη παγκόσμια κατάταξη), ενώ ολοκλήρωσε την 1η αγωνιστική με νίκη επί της Γαλλίδας Μποσάρντ (9η στη παγκόσμια κατάταξη).
To Ελληνικό πλήρωμα μετέχει στο α' γκρουπ (10 σκάφη sonar).
Το Match racing θα είναι η νέα ολυμπιακή κλάση της ιστιοπλοΐας στους Ολυμπιακούς του Λονδίνου το 2012.

Η σημερινή 2η ημέρα του πρωταθλήματος TP52 στο Κάλιαρι περιελάμβανε και μερικές συγκλονιστικές στιγμές ανάμεσα στο Bribon και το Audi A1.

Φαντάζομαι ότι έγινε λάθος υπολογισμός από το Audi A1 και δεν κατάφεραν να ποδίσουν πίσω από το δεξήνεμο Bribon.
Κρίμα για τα σκάφη και ειδικά για το Bribon, που όπως βλέπετε στις εικόνες, υπέστη σοβαρή ζημιά.

Alberto Roemmers’ Matador lead the Region of Sardinia Trophy after winning two of today’s three races.

Their two well won victories sandwich a fifth place which proved an equal measure of their tenacity and resolution, coming back from last place through the first half of the race.
Matador’s consistency keeps them five points clear of Synergy going into tomorrow’s coastal race which carries a 1.5 points multiplier.
Audi MedCup Circuit champions Emirates Team New Zealand followed a similar pattern to their opening day, starting badly with a tenth, but fighting back to a second and third to lie third on the overall regatta standings.
If on Tuesday it had offered something of a one sided race track, Cagliari’s Bay of Angels may have had a devil’s influence at times today because the breeze pattern altered from race to race as the split winds on either side of the course offered big opportunities for gains and losses, especially on the downwind legs.
Matador won the first race which was contested in near perfect sea breeze conditions of nine to ten knots. Quantum Racing lead through the early stages of the race but chose to gybe set at the final windward mark while Vasco Vascotto and Francesco Bruni conspired to go right down the run to gain more than half a minute, stealing across the finish ahead of the 2008 Audi MedCup champions.
In the second race it was Synergy’s tactician Rod Dawson (NZL) who read the first beat best. They flipped right early and were able to take command as the breeze lifted progressively, ensuring they lead all the way around ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand. Approaching half way up the first beat Matador fouled Quantum Racing, tacking too close to them, and had to take a penalty. That dropped them to round the windward mark as tail enders. They made little impression on the run, but their never say die attitude and inspired downwind sailing saw the world champions restore themselves to a useful fifth.
With dark clouds covering the race area and an oppressive, humid air replacing the early sunshine, the final race of the day was marred by a first beat collision between Audi A1 powered by All4ONE and Bribon. The Franco-German team lost control in the final, painful seconds as the tried to duck the Spanish boat and struck them hard one third of the way from the back of their port topsides. Both boats had to retire and Bribon will not be able to take any further part in the regatta.
Ironically the iconic Spanish crew suffered a similar sad fate in the last regatta of the MedCup in 2006 in Ibiza. The only other big collisions of recent years on the Circuit was at a messy top mark approach in Marseille in 2007, but both times these incidents were as the fleet converged, nearing the windward mark.
Matador lead the race from the first turning mark and at one stage were over 200 metres ahead of second placed TeamOrigin (GBR), while Emirates Team New Zealand took third.

Yesterday was the first day of the Audi Med Cup-Cagliari.

Three races were held in 8-18 knots for the ten boat fleet of TP52s. Onboard Artemis our first and second races were good with a 3,6 and we were 2nd overall at that point. Then a bad start and going the wrong way on the first windward leg of the third race put us way behind the fleet.
We fought back to battle on the last run with Bribon and Luna Rossa but we failed to pass them at the finish. After light to moderate Southeasterly winds for three-quarters of the day the wind really piped up for that last race.
The water was very choppy. Emirates Team New Zealand came out of the day in first, with Matador in second.
Tomorrow racing begins at 1300 and moderate Southeasterly winds are forecast again.

Emirates Team New Zealand bounced back from an opening race eighth to lead the Region of Sardinia Regatta.

Their Region of Sardinia Trophy Regatta lead after Day 1 on the Gulf of Cagliari may be the smallest possible, but Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL) proved why they are so firmly on course for their second successive Audi MedCup Circuit today when they stretched their overall Circuit lead still further over 2008 champions Quantum Racing (USA).
After a very modest eighth in the first race the Kiwi champions bounced back to a second and then won the breezy third race to finish the day sharing the same points aggregate as the Franco-German Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE (FRA/GER) but leading on countback.
For the Kiwi champions, who won here in July last year, that slender lead is only an early, passing bonus – a reflection of their strength and ability. The real satisfaction came as they added another eight points to their Circuit lead over Quantum Racing whose 9,3,7 for the day underlined just how testing the conditions were.
As if to underline once again the small margins between glory and a finish in the lower reaches of the 10 boat 52 Series fleet on a race track which favoured the best starters, in Race 1 José Cusi’s Bribon (ESP) were quickest off the pin end of the start line and able to gain early control of the favoured left side of the course.
They went on to win but then, unable to exert themselves so well off the start line, could only back up their victory by a ninth and an eighth.
Emirates Team New Zealand were contenders in the top three on approach to the first windward mark, but had to duck out of their port tack approach to round eighth.
Jochen Schumann’s Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE got clear early, jumping off the middle of the Race 2 start line in 6-9 knots of ESE’ly wind. Their sharp start allowed them to reap the dividend on the left, but also taking a perfect line in extra breeze to their final layline to lead around the windward mark. They won their first race since Cascais in May when they crossed the finish ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand. For the third race in succession it was the team which started best which went on to take the winning gun, although Dean Barker (NZL) and the Kiwi crew had to work hard for their victory.
While the start saw only 6-7 knots of late afternoon breeze, it swung hard left and built left flank of the first beat, new breeze piping up to more than 20 knots.
The gentle breeze was replaced suddenly by marching white horses and full power conditions, still peppered with big swings in direction on different parts of the course as the residual breeze clung to the right of the track.
Emirates Team New Zealand were able to keep the advances of Matador (ARG) in check at the approach to the second windward mark, when the wind seemed to bang back right, towards the original direction, leaving all three leading boats fast reaching into the final turn, well above the starboard lay line. But the Argentine flagged Matador, with their 2,8,2 for the day lie third, only one point behind the kiwis and Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE.

Long time Audi MedCup Circuit competitors and fans Quantum Racing are the first of several teams to announce that they will campaign a new build boat for next season.

Today at the Region of Sardinia Trophy in Cagliari Quantum Racing announced that they will build a new boat for the 2011 Circuit.
Their 2008 Audi MedCup championship winning programme was the culmination of investment and participation on the world’s leading regatta circuit, having competed with Lexus in the inaugural year 2005, through the Quantum-powered Warpath and Windquest before the present Quantum Racing (USA) took to the water in 2008.
Quantum Racing finished second last year, and lie second overall on the 2010 Audi MedCup Circuit.
The new Quantum Racing will follow a very similar established winning recipe, being designed by Botin Carkeek and built in Spain by Chimo Lopez Longtitude Zero in Burriana, ready for launching and work up in the Mediterranean early next season.
Project manager Ed Reynolds, President of Quantum Sail Design Group said:
“We want to support the Audi MedCup. I've watched for years when a new one design class or a new boat comes out and it's always like ‘well if you sell six boats we'll buy one’. Somebody just has to stand up first and say ‘we believe the direction, we believe the new concept and we like the new boats.” “We're going to be here for a while and hopefully it will all kind of give enough confidence to some of the other teams to say yes, the Audi MedCup is going to be here for a while Let’s step up and go too”. “The Audi MedCup is the most competitive, highest level of monohull racing ever, it is so intense, so defined, and I personally believe what's happened with the Americas Cup with multihulls has created an amazing opportunity for the Medcup to truly take a grip of grand prix, the ultimate level of sailing in the world.”
Nacho Postigo (ESP), Audi MedCup Circuit Technical Director, added:
“It is great that Quantum Racing is the first of a good number of teams to commit to building new boats for next year. It makes me very happy because they have been sponsoring a boat since Day 1, since 2005, and it proves well that the Circuit recovers your investment very nicely. That is on the business part of the equation.”
“But to have one of the teams which have been consistently top three returning is great, too, because it means that the high level will be maintained, but it is also a level which can be achieved by individual, private owners as well.”
