Exciting 1st day at the 2011 Star South American Championship.
Brazilians making a head start at Mar del Plata, Argentina with wavy conditions and close battles.The Star South American 2011 in Mar del Plata started with N-NW winds of 12-15 knots and sunny weather.
The fleet included many world famous sailors. Among them, Lars Grael, Gastao Brun and Alessandro Pascolato from Brazil and Zanetti from Argentina.
The winner of the day was Alessandro Pascolato scoring two bullets. Behind him, Lars Grael had to settle with two 2nd places.

However, during the 2nd race, they were very close and it was only a slight mistake of Lars (he choose the wrong side at the 2nd upwind) that led him to lose the race.
During the day, there were some DNF due to broken masts and sails. The sailors started repairing their damages early in the afternoon, getting prepared for tomorrow, when the forecast promises a lot of battles on the waves
