Polish domination in every category at the 2011 RS:X Europeans

All the gold medals in every single category went to a Polish windsurfer.
Piotr Myszka (POL82) in men, Sofia Klepacka (POL8) in women, Pawel Tarnowski (POL182) in youth boys and Kamila Smektala (POL104) in youth girls claimed the four gold medals, leaving no chance to their opponents.
Piotr and Smektala also won the medal races and extended their lead even more.
The wind had picked up early today and it was blowing 13 knots during all the medal races. The youth girls started first with Smektala leading the fleet and Laura Kishon (ISR34) following her. Agnieszka Bilska (POL09) did not start well and was in 8th place, but in the second upwind and downwind she managed to overtake many girls, finishing in fourth place and securing the silver medal from Kishon that won the bronze.
After the girls, it was time of the boys fleet, Pawel Tarnowski (POL182) had to keep close to Giard Louis (FRA155) in order to keep his place and win the gold medal. Louis did a great race and finished first but Tarnowski was not going to leave the gold medal so easily. He sailed well and managed to finish second in the medal race, leaving Louis with the silver medal. Bronze medal went to Kieran Martin (GBR926) that finished 5th in the medal race.
The women started right afterwards, with Lee-el Korzits (ISR1111) rounding the weather mark first. Korzits had to keep that place and Sofia Klepacka (POL8) had to finish last in order for Korzits to win the gold medal. But another Polish, Dziarnowska Maja (POL7), passed Korzits at the second upwind and Klepacka managed to gain some places, finish in 7th place and claim the gold medal. Korzits took the silver and Pauline Perrin (FRA53) the bronze, finishing 4th at the medal race.
The last start was for the mens’ fleet. With Myszka having the gold medal secured from yesterday, the fight would be for the silver and bronze medal. Shahar Zubari (ISR11) was in third place, a few points behind Byron Kokalanis (GRE8) and tried to start really close to him. A few seconds before the start he changed his mind and decided to start on port tack but he miscalculated and could not cross the committee boat. He had to tack quite a few times in order to go at the right side of the course that he originally wanted. That gave the chance to Kokalanis to sail undisturbed and finish second in the medal race behind Myszka. Third finished Pierre Le Coq (FRA77) and fourth Ivan Pastor Lafuente (ESP7), who won the bronze medal leaving Zubari in 4th place overall with his 8th place in the medal race.
The rest of the windsurfers raced one race in each category and, after the finish of today’s races, a small ceremony followed for the winners. The official ceremony was scheduled for later this evening, where the medals were given.
Congratulations to all the competitors and the winners of the 2011 RS:X European Championship!
