RS:X Europeans: Last day of qualification for the men with a full range of conditions

Δελτίο Τύπου: Icarus Sailing Media
The day started with light conditions today. The athletes gathered at the finish line, waiting for the wind to pick up and start the races. The first race had lot of pumping in both upwind and downwind legs. Shahar Zubari (ISR11) did a great job and managed to overtake Ivan Pastor (ESP8) at the last downwind leg and win the race.
Behind them was Federico Esposito (ITA9) in third and Byron Kokalanis (GRE8) in fourth, who had his worst race so far and discarded it. That made Kokalanis fight harder at the next two races. With a first and a third place, he managed to be in the second place overall two points behind Piotr Myszca (POL82).
Myszka was racing in the second group today. After a general recall, the fleet started with a slightly stronger wind. Myszka seemed to be the unbeatable! He rounded the weather mark on the third place and after the inner loop he was far ahead from everybody. He continued this way at the next two races scoring two bullets.
Zubari is following Piotr and Kokalanis, having an exceptional day and finishing first, second and third today. Nimrod Mashiah (ISR21) dropped from third yesterday to fourth today, having Pastor right after him.
At the women fleet, Lee-el Korzits (ISR1111) broke her streak and with a 13th, a third and a second place, gave a chance to Sofia Klepacka to reach her and have a tie at the first place.

Klepacka scored two bullets today at the first and third race and managed to finish in fifth place, after a strong second upwind on the second race, gaining more than ten places. Behind the two girls is now another Polish athlete, Dziarnowska Maja (POL7), and Blanca Manchon (ESP1). Bryony Shaw (GBR94), who was third yesterday, did not do so well today and dropped in fifth place.
At the same time with the senior fleet, the youth fleet is giving its own battle for the Youth Europeans. The Polish team seems to be the best prepared and have tomorrow's champions. In the Boys, Pawel Tarnowski (POL182) is in the lead with Giard Louis (FRA155) in second and Marcin Urbanowicz (POL011) in third. At the girls, all podium positions belong to the Polish.
Kamila Smektala (POL104) is first, followed by Agnieszka Bilska (POL09) in second and Karolina Zajaczkowska (POL04 ) in third.
Tomorrow is a rest day for all the athletes, in order to repair any damages and charge their batteries for Thursday that is the first day of the finals!
